Luke for Utah Blog
Do It Together
Last weekend at the state convention, every state delegate showed up and all I interacted with asked thoughtful questions and took the role seriously. I’m grateful for the support and honored to have earned 56.5% of the vote and the convention win.
Do The Work
One of the funniest lines in politics is still Ronald Reagan’s response in his debate with Walter Mondale: “I will not take advantage of my opponent’s youth and inexperience for political purposes.”
Letter from Council Chair Erik Rowland
Dear State Delegates,
I am writing to offer my strong endorsement of Luke Searle for Utah House District 59. I have served with Luke on the Wasatch County Council for the past three years, and I have seen firsthand the kind of leader he is. Luke is the kind of public servant people hope for: engaged, prepared, thoughtful, and genuinely committed to representing his community well.
This Race Beyond Convention
This race does not end at convention. House District 59 includes all of Wasatch County, Park City proper, and surrounding precincts. This is not a safe seat, especially with no incumbent and it being a potential wave year.
The last time I saw the Democrats this organized and energized was in 2018, when medical marijuana was on the ballot and it was a wave election year. That year, this same district was about 200 votes away from going the other way, and that was with an incumbent on the ballot.
My Record and Conservative Experience
I also want to share the endorsement of the rest of the Wasatch County Council in this race. We don’t always agree, but it’s been an honor to work alongside them in bettering our county. Their support means a lot, and it reflects the kind of working relationships that matter in any governing body and especially in the state legislature.
Summit County
State House District 59 encompasses much of the Wasatch Back – including Park City and the surrounding area of Summit County, and I want to share a few thoughts about the unique challenges and opportunities we face.
First, too often in recent years, the legislature has attempted to micro-manage Summit County. As Republicans, we believe in local control and limited government. As a member of the County Council in Wasatch County, I have watched as folks in the State Capitol override the hard work of local officials to help us to death.
Education: Our State's Future
In my role at Wasatch CAPS, I work with high school students every day on preparing for the real world. That looks like learning how to write a professional email, show up on time, communicate clearly, and follow through on real projects with real expectations.
Property Taxes & Our Seniors
I had a great time at the Summit County GOP Convention this past week. Good turnout and a lot of one-on-one conversations that I really appreciated. I’ve been sharing some of what I’m seeing and hearing along the way, so feel free to follow along on Instagram or Facebook (above) for updates from the trail.
From here. Focused on here.
Happy Spring and spring break to Wasatch schools! I’ve really enjoyed the conversations I’ve had with many of you already and am looking forward to continuing those this week. I’ll also be attending the Summit GOP County Convention Tuesday night at 5:30 pm at Ecker Middle School. Come to my booth and say hi and grab a treat too.
About Me
For those I have not yet met, I’m Luke Searle. I grew up in the Heber Valley, am now a Wasatch High and Wasatch CAPS teacher (& Turning Point Advisor), Wasatch County Councilman, and a candidate for Utah House District 59. I want to share my campaign launch video and explain why I’m running.
