My Record and Conservative Experience

With less than one week to go this has been such a great experience for me, fully understanding who you are as delegates of your neighborhoods and the Wasatch Back, and how we have really solidified the issues that matter to us.

I want to speak to those and also talk about this race, especially things that have been brought up about me. A lot of that comes down to the fact that I have a track record and I am running on it. I’ve been involved in this community longer than a campaign season, and I’ve been working on these issues here long before I ever filed to run.

On property taxes, I have fought against property tax increases in the Wasatch County government and won. Just one example last year, there was a proposed increase for Parks and Recreation, and I pushed back. We did not raise property taxes. With the new seniors tax relief I fought for, over new 100 senior households in Wasatch received property tax relief. I will work hard to find solutions like that on the state level for relief and reform across the state for all primary resident taxpayers.

On open space, I have been supportive of every conservation easement that has come before our council. Right now, we are in the process of preserving over 600 acres, and we need to do more. I am working right now to get Heber City and others in agreement so we can have real coordination and make preservation happen where growth pressure is the highest.

I also want to share the endorsement of the rest of the Wasatch County Council in this race. We don’t always agree, but it’s been an honor to work alongside them in bettering our county. Their support means a lot, and it reflects the kind of working relationships that matter in any governing body and especially in the state legislature.

The biggest point I want to make is this: I have been here doing the work on these issues, and I want to continue that at the state level. I want to be a partner in getting more done on the things that matter to all of us and also be a voice that the best decisions happen locally and the state needs to respect local control.

This isn’t about slogans or trying to use issues to get ahead of anyone else. I’m not going to be a keyboard warrior or chase headlines. I’m going to listen and get to work. There are plenty of things people have told me one person can’t do, but together we can win this race and make life better for the Wasatch Back.

All the best,
Luke Searle
